The build quality of these cameras are outstanding, and like nothing you can seem to find currently. It is a well-oiled-machine, that not only has withstood the test of time, but captures amazing images mamiyya a quality that is equally as timeless.
If you never have shot medium format; Mamiya, Rolleiflex, Hasselblad. Years ago, I owned this camera and always loved the image quality and ease of use. Decided to purchase a C and several lens to play around with.
I intend to have the film developed professionally and then scan the negative or transparency to digital for editing. One word of caution when buying these older cameras is the condition of the foam light seal on the film door, rear of camera. The foam tends to deteriorate over time. It can be replaced through instructions found on-line or by a professional repair person.
Back in the ’70’s O owned a C I carried that camera with my all through my tour in the Navy. But Life happens and I sold the Now I have some extra cash so I bid on and won the Mamiya C Now in this day and age Film is kinda blase but I love this camera. The built in bellows give you great macro range and the interchangeable lens allows one to get very creative.
This camera is quite heavy, Not the 3Lbs that a c3 weighs but still a lot to lug around. If I need color, I’ll use my digital. The camera was in great shape when I got it and so far I am delighted with it. I pretty much only work in film except when taking pics for an eBay listingand this is now my third and final film camera.
The mm Blue Dot lens came with it. That lens, from what I have read, is one of the best for this TLR. It actually has an aperture adjustment for the viewing lens to gage depth of field. It also has a time release setting so I can jump into my un-masterful self-portraits. The camera is heavy, so I always use it on a tripod. The macro is wonderful, as is the bokeh. I have augmented my camera with several different viewing glasses, an original leather case, a mm lens with hood and leather case, and a Paramender for macro work.
There are interesting accessories out there! These may be older cameras, but mine works well, and all of the settings are spot on. It h as no meter, so I use my Sekonic, as I would anyway. These are so excellent and at such a low price you should pick one up before the prices start to take on a “collectors” level of investment! I bought this product due to a general love of TLRs in general and MF photography in particular, and I’ve found it to be simply a great product and outstanding performer.
The standard 80mm lens is incredibly sharp and the whole body and set up is phenomenally robust. The option to change lenses is unique for a TLR and makes great practical economic sense-if one lens system develops shutter problems, it can be simply swapped out.
As other reviewers have noted, the fairly solid proportions also makes this quite a heavy camera, but with that one also gets a TLR with probably decades of life still left in it. A few dents and scratches make absolutely no difference with an outstanding performer like this, and one can buy an old model, assuming it is accurately described as working, with complet e confidence-they really are built like a tank. When I got mine from an estate sale in the US, it looked as if it had been sat unused in a box or attic for years, but I simply wiped the dust off, dry clicked the shutter a few times at various speeds the slow speeds usually go first, but no problem even hereinserted film, and it worked with absolutely no hitch.
Some of the photos I’ve got since, particularly in close up, are simply breathtaking in terms of sharpness and depth of field. This is quite simply one of the most underrated MF cameras out there, and often a complete bargain second hand. Skip to main content.
