Government and binding, though both fascinating in their own right, received a heavy handed treatment in this lengthy tome. The copious exercises have been revisedto increase potential for creativty and flexibility of approach.
Extremely well-written, with excellent illustrations, covering major concepts in G and B Theory. It’s not fun and heageman not pretty, but this is a coherent and generally well done account of government and binding theory for those who already have some background. The book takes as its starting point the projection principle, the notion that haegenan syntactic structure is projected from the lexicon, with each chapter developing further the idea that syntax can be built on the basis of lexical information.
