I fell in love with his writing. He writes with equal verve and fervour about werewolves as he does spaceships, wizards and vampires, and he has won virtually every award in the fields of fantasy literature.


Not a very good horror story. It’s hard to believe that before his momentous series, he had been an accomplished writer of science fiction and horror. Same goes for ‘In the Lost Lands,’ but instead of the world, Gray Alys was what made the story so very intriguing.

However, Martin’s personal commentary in the book definitely brings the rating to a solid 4 stars. Martin’s short fiction, a dazzling array of award-winning stories from the last thirtysome years. This is where GRRM gets imaginative. I’m not a big horror fan, but out of the horror and hybrids section, ‘Monkey Mind’ was definitely my favorite because it was so creepy and disturbing.

Martin is a big fan of short fiction and has written a lot of short stories throughout his career. A Life in Parts by Bryan Cranston. This story made me laugh aloud multiple times, despite being creepy and disgusting at the same time. A little bizarre but it works. He formed his own cosmic universe called a Thousand Worlds, and his science fiction lived in this universe. The stories I shall touch on are as follows: A Song for Lya – I read this story after Tainaron, and somehow the setting had a similar atmosphere to it.

Martin lives in New Mexico. And that mindset made reading this a true joy.

Will he finally embrace the doctrine of his tutors, murder a stranger, and abandon his mentor? The world doesn’t get rretrospectivw weight here, but the characters make up for it. The story never gets far enough away from the grotesque for it be enjoyable, but it’s certainly memorable.

The book has five sections which each include an introduction, wherein Martin provides his commentary on his personal situation and dreamaongs at the time he wrote the stories.

A literary dervish, enthralled by complicated characters and vivid language, and bursting with the wild vision of the very best tale tellers’ New York Times ‘Martin’s style is so vivid that you will be hooked within a few pages’ The Times.

The Hrangans never knew it. Once again, great ending. With a hopeful but doubtful release some time next year, for the time being there is thankfully Dreamsongs, a two-volume collection featuring George R.
