Leeches by David Albahari

The novel begins with him witnessing a random act of violence: Anti-Semitism reared knjiige ugly head once again, along with anti-Roma, anti-Albanian, anti-Croat sentiment and the game of all so-called patriots in this worldblame somebody else for your own shortcomings.

In fact, the narrator’s mind in the present when he’s telling the story is of little importance. Perhaps it gets better as it goes on, but I doubt that I will change my stance on this.
