The characters are so real, even t This is the first book published by Black Library that I ever read. The first few times it happens, it’s an enjoyable idiosyncrasy.

Part detective story, part supernatural struggle against forces that threaten humanity, part horror, and some other stuff, all rolled into one. Thanks for telling us about the problem. Sometimes you just want to sit down and get lost in a crazy adventure.

This series mixed first person narration by Ravenor with third person narration. This is my first run eisemhorn the Warhammer Universe, something I didn’t think I was interested in. The writing itself wasn’t all that crazy, but the world itself had more than enough to keep me coming back and turning pages.

A fun, light, action-packed sci-fi romp that definitely made me fist-pump the air a few times as I read it. His former friends and allies are now gone or dying and he no longer has a place he can call home. The series is predominantly written in the first person, resulting in an unreliable narrator: Did his seeking of knowledge about the enemy make him blind of his mistakes? The one page introduction of the universe at abnert beginning of the book will suffice as all the knowledge you need to tear into this one.

So as a word of warning, don’t get too attached to Eisenhorn’s crew.

It is not clear if the novels and stories are written in the same period, after Hereticusor are, as may be more likely, written intermittently during and after the events of the series. I’d suggest not covering this tome in cream by the way, it won’t make it any more, digestible.

Well sign me up to the Schola, abnrtt the black ships, I could be an Inquisitor because I think I can decipher that code.

All the characters that appear in more than 1 or 2 pages – and I emphasise – all of these characters of lesser or very little importance, are very well prophiled, represented and cause emtional involvement, especially, of course, the main characters, the protagonist’s comrads and friends no family members whom he has extremely complex relationships with, relationships that most of the time, indeed, seem very unlikely.


Of the three novels I enjoyed ‘Xenos’ the most-not I hasten to add because it is better written or has a better story but because of the increasingly tragic nature of what occurs to the main characters, for whom the Nietzschean maxim “when you stare into the Abyss, the Abyss stares into you” might well have been written. I will go as far as saying that this is the best sci-fi book I have read to date. Inquisitors are given absolute authority to root out and destroy any and all threats to humanity.

Recently though I took another look at the concept eisennorn was blown away. Eisenhorn and Bauer are alike in that they have both given their lives to serve a greater purpose, which is to protect the lives and stability of those around them.

Oh, and one minor issue towards the end.

Xenos is a good read and well worth your time. Dan Abnett has been writing comics and novels since the mids. Planning ahead, investigating, researching, and so on. In it was announced that there would be a video game adaptation of Xenospublished by Pixel Hero Games.
