The book understandig uniquely designed for students of engineering and applied computer science, and engineering practitioners. Now I find it “the coolest thing ever”. East Dane Designer Men’s Fashion. This book was a good foundation for my cryptography class, although a few points about ciphers used are now a bit out of date. The subject matter is not simple, so if you really wish cryptogdaphy understand them you need to go through things very slowly, stopping frequently to check understanding, but everything you need is in the book without it being overly long. His lectures are on youtube.

Some of the math is apar little advanced for undergraduate computer science students, but general ideas can be gleaned about ciphers requiring Galois theory or elliptic curves, for instance, without formally covering those topics.

The only book on the subject I actually read, from cover to cover. I would highly recommend this text. One of the better expositions, though not quite as broad-based as it could be. It provides examples and explanations without being overly wordy, and is formatted to avoid large sections of block text. I could tell from the available samples and the table of contents, that it should meet my needs.
