Between a lifetime of emotional abuse by his family, and a traumatic event in his past, this poor man is completely overwhelmed. His mind began to catalog the many, intricate plant-based poisons he knew, several of which were rendered tasteless in a simple cup of tea.
I was dying for a great romance where I could lose myself and have that “I can’t stand to stop reading” feeling. Wonderful story, great characters and a wonderful happy ending. The majority of the book focuses on these two men as they heal, and as they create the foundation of a life together.
In fact I took to both of them because they were so refreshing in these days of perfect hunks of men. I mean, I read it and liked gentle,an characters, but I never really cared about them. All things considered, it’s a nice blanket. A son of a whore who becomes a whore himself and the painfully shy, socially awkward, stammering son of a marquess meet in the most unlikely of situations and start a love affair with a dark, unspoken and painful secret between them.
I will kill him, he thought. There’s only one way out of this genfleman. I feel so good about reading this book. Not only because, for once, the sex is for pleasure and not for profit. Yet, in the same breath, I rejoiced in the fact that they were surrounded by a few caring souls who would help them begin the long journey toward healing, and each other. I did enjoy this book.

I also loved all the botanical references, this point in the Victorian time period was a fascinating one for the natural arts and sciences. But did I throw the book across the room in annoyance? Two hopelessly flawed men discover that they aren’t as hopelessly flawed as they suspected. Even though that was not on screen either, it was almost worse in the innuendo. So yeah this was just okay for me, overall it’s a good historical, not the best, but alright.
Not Heidi’s usual kinkiness she can deliver oh boy, that woman can write some kink. Wanted to love it; didn’t. One thing that happened a lot with this story was that the story alternated progressing very slowly, to chaotic, five things happening at once. Pretty much every character in this book has a When I learned Heidi was re-releasing it, I thought this would be the perfect time to read it. There’s nothing wrong with me. I must admit, I am not just an epilogue whore, I’m a history whore as well and this story had me enthralled in the historical references, the sensitive subjects it touched on and confronted, from the beginning to the end, and the love that seemed to just bleed off the pages to puddle at my feet.
I felt for them and what they had been through.
